The Green Hub Project for Teens is a local community project serving Surrey & Hants and surrounding areas. It supports young people (aged 11-18) facing social, emotional and mental health challenges, along with their families and carers. In addition, Green Hub works to promote awareness and understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing for young people in the broader community.
The Green Hub achieves this through its social prescription Teen Garden horticultural therapy programme, talks and support groups within the local community, along with sharing useful information via the website.
The Green Hub in summary:
- Promotes the wellbeing of teenagers' mental health through social and therapeutic horticulture
- Offers free12-week programmes to young people from 11-18 – they come to our garden in Milford, Surrey on a Saturday morning or afternoon for 1.5 hours at a time.
- Sometimes, The Green Hub can be an alternative to CAMHS; or it can be a safe 'holding space' while waiting for, or transitioning from, CAMHS. It is always a calm and restorative place.
- It is run entirely by volunteers – anyone who comes into contact with young people is fully vetted, DBS checked, safeguarding and first aid trained. Team members are all currently working through Autism and LGBTQ awareness training
- The project has been funded by Godalming Town Council and Community Foundation Surrey, as well as a range of initiatives in the local community.
