Being diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes can feel scary and worrying, but having diabetes doesn't need to stop you from living a full life. We've put together some trusted information sources to help you learn more about diabetes and how it can be managed well in children and young people.

Information for those newly diagnosed with diabetes

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is a charity specialising in type 1 diabetes and their website has plenty of information for those newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, their parents and carers.

Diabetes UK has information for children and young people newly diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes in a range of languages. This includes tops tips to get you started and support details.

Healthy eating with diabetes

Find out how to enjoy a healthy diet, with recipes, meal plans and diabetes dietary advice.

Diabetes and feeling unwell

Being unwell can affect your diabetes management. Here are some sick day rules and advice for if you need to go into hospital.

Help and support

There are a number of groups you can become involved in to meet other children and young people with diabetes. Why not become a Young Leader and work with other young people in Surrey, as part of the Our Lives, Our Choices, Our Voices programme?

There are Apps to support you to manage your diabetes, which can also link in with your Continual Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device and give you hints and tips.
